Completed resin version

Games Workshop has just recently released this kit in plastic. This kit was originally available was a resin kit through www.forgeworld.co.uk which retails for about $125. It is only sold through Forgeworld and isn't available through any store. This review will cover the differences between both the plastic and resin version.

The plastic kit consists of 2 sprues. The park breakdown is similar to the resin kit however the plastic kit has more parts. The plastic version also comes with option parts to build the Marloc a variant of the Trygon which looks more snake-like. This version is not available when the resin kit was released. There is also a Trygon Prime version which more closely matches the original resin kit. From looking at the photos of the resin version compared to the plastic kit, it seems that the parts for the plastic kit offers sharper detail. Another main difference to note is that since the kit is in plastic compared to resin, it is a lot easier to build and modify. The injection plastic version also makes for a lot lighter kit so pinning is not necessary unlike the resin version.

Resin kit part breakdown

Overall, the plastic kit is very well casted. There is very little flash on the kit which makes cleanup fairly easy. Some of the placement of the gates of the sprues which are connected to a part makes additional clean up necessary. Games Workshop has come a long way in casting techniques. They are now able to cast complex parts which would normally be impossible a few years back. One of the downside to having complex parts is that it can be difficult to clean up the parts so you might have to make your own specialized sanding sticks to get into all hard to reach places.
